| Delia Sainsbury was born in London and attended the famous Bush-Davies School where she gained teaching diplomas in the classical ballet, Modern Theatre, Dance, Tap and National Dance, as well as gaining Advanced 2 in all genres and the Performer's Diploma in Drama LAMDA. She was awarded Licentiate status in 1982 and Fellowship in 1986. (FISTD) She became a Senior International Examiner in 1987 and the National Organizer for the Imperial Society in 1995, a position she held until 2007, when she was then elected as the first (and so far the only) member of the Grand Council for the ISTD. Delia was presented with the international award for Contribution to Dance in 2006. | ![]() |
| PERFORMING HISTORY UK Delia began her performing career in Camelot at Drury Lane theatre after graduating from Bush Davies. She went on the appear in nine West End Musicals and Plays including Funny Girl (with Barbra Streisand) - Prince of Wales Theatre, The Four Musketeers - Drury Lane, (where she met her husband Keith Galloway) Cockie - Vaudeville Theatre, Belle Starr - Cambridge Theatre, GB - Westminster Theatre, Canterbury Tales, Noel Cowards Custard - Bristol Old Vic and Present Laughter etc. She appeared extensively on television for BBC and various ITV stations in serious such as Z Cars and variety shows, appearing at the London Palladium for a year. She presented both quiz programs and children’s television including the famous Blue Peter. Delia also sung extensively in cabaret topping the bill at the famous Astor Club in Berkley Square and London Room, Drury Lane. She has appeared in five UK and International feature films. | |
| PERFORMING HISTORY SOUTH AFRICA After arriving in SA in 1976, after touring for a year in West Side Story, Keith and Delia established Dance Workshop to train South African Dancers for television. Delia quickly established herself on television, along with her husband, dancing in the series Sing for 3 years, and choreographing various variety shows such as Walk Right In and Spotlight On, as well as presenting magazine programs for an unbroken run of 22 years. She will be remembered for Compass, Video 2, Monday Magazine, Antennae, Silhouette, and Good Morning South Africa etc. | |
| WRITING AND PRODUCTION Delia writes extensively for Corporate Theatre and has written numerous original productions for the College, including The Rainbow Connection, Blue Jeans, Sail the Magic Seas, the Story of Us all of which have a cast of around 100 children! | |
| COLLEGE DESIGNATION Delia oversees both the junior and senior ISTD examinations. She ensures that the work is continually updated and the College is abreast of the latest International syllabi and styles. She encourages all the dance staff to continually choreograph and upgrade their work, and achieve the higher teaching status. Consequently, the Waterfront Theatre School dance staff are the best qualified in South Africa and choreograph extensively in their fields. | |
